Thank you for purchasing MarcoPolo 2.0.4. This document contains information you should be aware of prior to installing MarcoPolo. Other information is also contained in the MarcoPolo ReadMe file which will be installed on your hard disk.
• Installing MarcoPolo 2.0.4
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of MarcoPolo, or have previously installed the MarcoPolo demo version, following installation you should check your Extensions folder for duplicate MarcoPolo Document Creators, and your Control Panels folder for duplicate MarcoPolo Menu Items. Remove any earlier versions and put them in the trash.
Installation of MarcoPolo on a partitioned hard disk volume which does not contain a system folder will not automatically install the MarcoPolo Document Creator or the MarcoPolo Menu Item when the Easy Install method is used. Click the Customize button, select the MarcoPolo Document Creator, the MarcoPolo Menu Item, and the volume containing the system folder. Click the Install button.
Following installation, the Tutorial Document Center, and the Tutorial Drop Folder may not initially display their icons as shown on page 41 of the manual. Don't worry, these icons will appear later.
• Publish and Subscribe
MarcoPolo does not directly support Publish and Subscribe functions. However, published editions saved to a drop folder will be introduced into the document center. Archived editions always attach the original file (edition).
Double clicking on an edition in the found files list window will display the MiniPage or full size view. Option-double clicking on an edition will open the publisher preview window in the same manner as if you had double-clicked on an edition file outside of MarcoPolo.
The "Open Publisher" button will then launch the original application containing the published edition. If desired, changes may be made to the original publisher and the edition will normally be saved in the same place as before i.e., the document center's drop folder.
The next time MarcoPolo is opened or switched to the foreground the new edition will be added to the document center. Changes made to a published edition are therefore archived as before but the previous archive remains intact.
• Aliases
Aliases of documents may be introduced into a document center using the designated drop folder. The same rules apply for aliases as for other documents archived through the drop folder. Formats recognized by MarcoPolo directly or through XTND translators are archived as images with the option to attach the original file. Other documents are archived as original-format files.
• Balloon Help
Balloon Help is available for each of MarcoPolo's menus and menu items. To activate Balloon Help, choose "Show Balloons" from the Help menu.
• QuickTime Movies
If an error message is received when adding a QuickTime movie to MarcoPolo, the most likely cause of the problem is the presence of an XTND translator for movies. MarcoPolo is able to archive QuickTime movies without the need for an XTND translator. Removal of the XTND translator from the Claris Translators folder, and the XTND Translator list from the Preferences folder will solve the problem.
• Important Note
Memory allocated to MarcoPolo should be increased to 4000K if large or color scanning projects are contemplated.
Currently MarcoPolo does not support color scanning from Apple's Color OneScanner when choosing Scan… from MarcoPolo's Documents menu. To archive color scans with this scanner, do the scan as you would normally, and save the file as a PICT file in a drop folder.
MarcoPolo 2.0.4 is an update to the MarcoPolo application. This update corrects a couple of reported problems and adds some additional capabilities that are not covered in the manual.
• Changes to Application •
1. Hyphenated words up to a maximum length of 29 characters are now found within an image document.
2. The ability to edit keywords rather than deleting and replacing them has been implemented.
3. A button labeled “Archive” has been added to the Scan window when Apple scanners are used.
4. TIFF files may now be archived through the drop folder without the need for XTND translators.
5. Visual feedback during the archiving of scans has been improved.
